Over the last few days, our students have been exploring friendly numbers. Today they exploded larger numbers into smaller ones. Friendly numbers are important because they help us use numbers effciently and flexibly when we add, subtract, etc. We used blocks to help us build numbers, and then pull out all the 10's, 5's and whatever is leftover.

Chose a number such as 45, 14, 27, 12, etc. and ask your child to explode it into friendly numbers. Don't let a 6, 7, 8, or 9 in the ones spot trick you!

Today was our first library orientation. We learned about the amazing selection of books from our Learning Commons. Students will be allowed to choose 2 books when they come to the library. One book will remain in the class as their "Read to Self" book, and the other book will come home. We will have a set library time once a month (we will remind students once the schedule is approved). Often students are finised a book before the set library time. In this case, we will find times during the day where those students can exchange their books for a new one. Our Home Reading Program will start up soon. We will send home information once it's ready to go.
