Home Journals
Please read your child's home journal, comment or write them back if you can, and return to school.

Our Arctic Stories
We have also been using our knowledge of Arctic stories to write our own stories inspired by the Arctic stories that we have studied. Students have been brainstorming, characters and setting features for their stories. Ask your child what a protagonist and antagonist are.

This week we read the story Baseball Bats For Christmas by Michael Kusugak.

Inquiry

We had a busy week in Inquiry. We had a visit from and Environmental Scientist who works in the Arctic monitoring past and present oil drilling sites.

We also learned about Arctic architecture and Arctic animals.

We are starting to think about the problems hat the Arctic might face in the future, such as the Permafrost melting or the Sea Ice melting.

Math
Subtraction

We have started to learn about how addition and subtraction are related and how being experts at addition can help us to develop our understanding of subtraction.

Fact Families

Students started to work on fact families for a variety of numbers. the numbers 7, 5, and 12 can be arranged into four corresponding equations.

7 + 5 = 12
5 + 7 = 12
12 - 7 = 5
12 - 5 = 7

Dentist

We also had a visit from the dentist and team from Shine Orthodontics. Students learned how to brush and floss effectively and had the opportunity to participate in many oral hygiene activities, such as brushing pop off of a soaked egg.
