A Community in the Past, Guest Speakers, Math

Inquiry

For our study of A Community in the Past, students asked the question: What was Calgary like before it was Calgary, and what was it called? We began to explore the people who were here before Calgary, The Blackfoot. We investigated maps and Tipis, listened to oral stories, and used early photographs to explore some aspects of Blackfoot culture.

A Special Guest

As we have been inquiring into Calgary's past, we had a very special guest come and share her story from when she was 7 years old....80 years ago! Ms. Reynold's grandma came all the way from Rocky Mountain House to talk to the students about what it was like living on the Prairies 80 years ago. The student's were fascinated by many of her stories and had many questions for her, including what school was like, what she did for fun, what the bathrooms were like, how she got to school, what she ate... Ask your child what they learned from the presentation.

Dr. Ken Fry, Entomologist

This week we had entomologist and Instructor Ken Fry come to our school as a guest speaker to show our students some of his collections of insects and tells us about insects in the prairies.
